Education in Faith

At OLHC, Christ is at the heart of all we do, guiding our mission to grow in faith, deepen our relationship with Him, and live out our discipleship through prayer and service.

We celebrate our faith and life through:

  • Prayer, fostering a personal and communal connection with God,

  • Faith and Life curriculum and Inquiry, integrating Catholic values into our learning,

  • Mass and liturgy, gathering as a community to worship and reflect,

  • Sacramental learning and celebrations, nurturing students' spiritual growth,

  • Christian meditation, creating moments of stillness and reflection, and

  • Acts of service, supporting those in need through initiatives such as Project Compassion, the winter appeal, and food drives.

Through these practices, we live our faith in action, inspiring our students to follow Christ’s example in their daily lives.

NURTURING LIFE LONG LEARNERS

Faith & Life Learning

At OLHC, we cultivate a learning environment that inspires inquisitive minds and nurtures a lifelong love of learning. Our Inquiry units begin with overarching concepts and integrate knowledge and skills from key learning areas of the Victorian Curriculum, including Science, Design and Technologies, Humanities, and the Capabilities. These units are carefully designed to ensure a comprehensive curriculum is covered over a two-year cycle. Examples of overarching concepts include Identity, Change, Connections, and Social Justice.

Religious Education is deeply embedded within these Inquiry units through our Faith Life Learning approach. By exploring the overarching concepts, students are able to merge curriculum learning with faith learning, ensuring that Religious Education holds equal importance alongside other key curriculum areas. This integrated model enriches their learning experience and strengthens their connection to faith and community.

CELEBRATION OF FAITH & SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Sacraments

At OLHC, sacramentality is central to our celebration of faith and spiritual growth. In partnership with our parish and families, we guide and prepare our students for receiving the sacraments, deepening their relationship with God and their understanding of their Catholic faith.

  • Year 4: Sacrament of Reconciliation

  • Year 5: Sacrament of First Eucharist

  • Year 6: Sacrament of Confirmation

Through these milestones, we nurture our students’ faith journey and their connection to our Catholic community.

LINKS TO OUR COMMUNITY

Parish Connection

At Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC), our connection with Risen Christ Parish and Fr. Michael is integral to our community's spiritual life. This partnership enriches our students' faith journeys and fosters a strong sense of belonging.

Sacramental Programs: In collaboration with Risen Christ Parish, we prepare students for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Preparation occurs within our religious education curriculum and through combined school workshops, with parents encouraged to participate via Family Faith Nights.

Family Faith Nights: These gatherings offer families opportunities to deepen their faith together, reinforcing the role of parents as primary faith educators. They also strengthen the bond between school and parish communities.

Social Justice Activities: Aligned with our commitment to social justice, we support parish initiatives such as the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. Our students engage in fundraising and awareness campaigns, fostering empathy and community service.

Liturgical Participation: Regular attendance at weekday Masses allows students to actively participate in liturgical celebrations, deepening their faith and connection to the parish community.

Through these collaborative efforts, OLHC and Risen Christ Parish cultivate a vibrant faith community, nurturing the spiritual development of our students and their families.
